PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:ย 

  • Conduct kayak tours, surf lessons instruction, according to specifications for each activity, up to 3 tours per day, up to 40 hrs per week.
  • Drive and maintain vehicles and trailers.
  • Maintain tour equipment including boats and gear.
  • Help with promotion of tours, kayaking sales and rentals as needed.
  • Help with reservations of kayak tours and rentals.
  • Keeping a positive attitude and enthusiasm for guiding.
  • Keeping kayak reservations and rental areas neat and clean.
  • Willingly help out with a variety of tasks as needed, as needed by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have basic Red Cross 1st-Aid certification.ย  (WFR preferred.)
  • Must have Red Cross or Heartsaver CPR certification.
  • Must have previous kayaking and/or guide experience
  • Previous outdoor leadership experience a plus
  • Complete guide training session (last 7-days of May)
  • Wear required attire
  • Ability to work flexible hours: including nights (Full Moon Tours), weekends, early mornings (Sunrise Tours), and holidays. **NO VACATION ALLOWED DURNG MONTH OF JULY!!!
  • Must be in good physical condition, able to lift kayaks comfortably (40-80 lbs), and work outside during hot, humid weather for long periods of time.
  • Must be self-sufficient and able to work independently
  • Must be a competent swimmer.
  • Must enjoy talking with the public.
  • Must have valid drivers license with good driving record. (Copy of driving record required)

RESERVATIONISTS

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • This is a full time position up to 40 hrs per week.ย  Workdays/ shifts may vary.
  • Customer Service which includes: booking kayak tours, kayaking and surf lessons, rentals, and kidโ€™s camps according to specifications for each activity. This includes answering phones, passing out brochures, talking with customers, and retail sales
  • Operate cash register for the sales of bookings, equipment, store merchandise, etc
  • Clean and maintain rental inventory including keeping daily inspections, notifying supervisor of any maintenance needs of rental equipment immediately.
  • Keep reservations and watersports equipment area clean and organized this can include: vacuuming, dusting, picking up trash, etc.
  • Help with promotion of tours, kayak sales and rentals as needed.
  • Keep a positive attitude and enthusiasm for customer service.ย  Willingly help customers with a variety of tasks as needed.
  • Retail sales of watersports equipment and as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have good people skills and pleasant phone manner.
  • Customer service experience required, retail experience is a plus.
  • Complete training session including: participating in various activities such as kayaking, surfing, parasailing, windsurfing, and sailing.ย  Also have willingness to learn about watersports retail equipment.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to learn about the services and products we sell (which will include attending product knowledge seminars and participating in a variety of watersports activities)
  • Wear required attire: Kitty Hawk Sports T-shirt or appropriate attire (see dress code) when working inside reservations.ย  Nametag must be worn while working.ย  Shoes or sandals are required.
  • Able to work flexible shift hours: including nights, weekends, mornings, and holidays.

Delivery Driver

The rental delivery position is responsible for the prompt and complete delivery of kayaks, stand up paddleboards, surf boards, wetsuits, beach cruisers, boogie boards, corn hole boards every day from June 15th โ€“ August 30th. The majority of the work will be done on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays for full day (7 am โ€“ 4 pm) and as needed on Tuesdays-Fridays. The position requires the heavy lifting of kayaks, stand up paddleboards, surf boards, wetsuits, beach cruisers, boogie boards, corn hole boards every day in hot, rainy and weather conditions. The position requires a clean driving record (no DUIs or other felony charges) as per our Commercial Auto Insurance Policy to drive our company vehicles. It also requires experience driving a trailer and a working knowledge of the Outer Banks from Corolla to Hatteras. The person will have to be patient as driving on weekend traffic on the Outer Banks is a necessity of the position. Also this person will have to be able to safely load and unload the equipment on trailers and pickup trucks and secure the equipment safely onto said equipment. Lastly the person will be required to maintain up to date paperwork on the delivery times and inventory of kayaks, stand up paddleboards, surf boards, wetsuits, beach cruisers, boogie boards, corn hole boards to and from the rental houses, as well as to communicate with Kitty Hawk Kayak & Surf School office personnel customers about the location of their beach house and changing orders.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday Schedule

  • Arrive at Kitty Hawk Kayak & Surf School, 6150 North Croatan HWY in Kitty Hawk, at 7 am for daily briefing and loading of equipment.
  • Wear Kitty Hawk Kayak & Surf School hat and shirt for work, and sneakers. (NO FLIP FLOPS. You will know why once you drop a bike or kayak on your toes.)
  • Review daily delivery sheets for customers.
  • Count requisite paddles, life jackets and equipment. Make sure to take extra equipment for potentially damaged goods.
  • Load and safely secure equipment to truck and trailer.
  • Brainstorm best route for pickup and delivery of equipment.
  • Take copies of delivery sheets and pens in Delivery Folder, making sure to document time, date and equipment delivered.
  • Review 1st Aid kit for the following tools:
    • Bike Pump
    • Allen Wrench Set
    • Bike Chain Oil
    • Bike tubes
    • Fins
    • Leashes
    • Plyers
    • Extra Cam Straps
  • Deliver equipment to beach houses and pick up equipment from beach houses, making sure to provide appropriate amount of paddles, life jackets, waivers and stickers to each house.
  • Store all equipment in the rear of the building, in pool area behind a fence and out of site from main road and front of the house.
  • Be personable, helpful and informative to all customers who may be at the house when you deliver and pick up equipment. Thank them for their order, ask how they enjoyed use of the equipment and be sure to give them a sticker with coupon offer for next time.
  • Make note of any damages to equipment on pick up sheet (broken fin, ding on board, snapped paddle etc)
  • Return to and turn in copies of delivery sheets and pens in Delivery Folder, making sure to document time, date and equipment delivered.
  • Unload any material onto kayak racks, SUP racks and surf board storage.
  • Return trailer to parking space and return straps.

It is critical that you drive safely and responsibly in gridlock traffic for this position. You will be driving company vehicles and are representing a positive lifestyle and image of our business. As such no smoking is permitted nor is the use of foul language or obnoxiously loud music of any kind.

The traffic on the weekends on the Outer Banks is absolute mayhem. Not starting early will ensure that you are working until 10 oโ€™clock at night.
